ClanBOB Wiki Style Guidelines

Please follow the guidelines of this page in order to help make this wiki consistent for those searching for information. For detailed information on how to edit this wiki, see the WikiStyle.

Once you have made whatever changes you feel are necessary, please log what you've done in the Comments section, by editing that page as others have done.

General

BOB is always spelled BOB. ClanBOB is always spelled ClanBOB. The BOB in BOBnames is spelled BOB. For consistancy's sake, please adhere to this rule.

Content

Certain kinds of content do not belong in this wiki. Additions that are conversational in tone (an example of a conversational comment can be found here) should be used sparingly. If you must make a conversational comment, see Quotes below for how to implement them. Another tone that is not very welcome here is an elitist one. Talking about a "golden age" or "elders" or any such is not a tactful way to go about it. Try to keep objective. "Golden ages" and such are purely subjective, and it differs between user to user whether one ever existed and, if it did, when it was.

Now, does this mean that the tone must always be serious? Certainly not. While a certain degree of seriousness should be present, it is fine to add some things purely for fun. Good examples of things put in just for fun include the comparison to ninjas in Nick's entry and the story in Agent #1's entry.

Lists

Lists seems to be very prominent in this wiki, mainly with names of people who belong to the many distinct subgroups of ClanBOB.

To distinguish a list from surrounding text, use the box style:

Some kind of list:

This is a list

It contains three items

Kai sucks

To create such a box, simply add a space before the list item.

Names

When naming a new page, please be considerate of future names. If you want to have an entry about your RP or subgroup, please don't call it "Members" or "Participants". Try naming it something like "StinyMembers" or "TankCrewParticipants" instead. It'll just make life a whole lot easier for people who want to add their things later. Those who do not follow this particular guideline will probably have their entries moved anyway.

One other thing to remember when naming pages is that they should not have a space in the title. There are two methods for page names with multiple words that are accepted here. First, you can make it all one word, capitalizing each word (ex: ThreadGame, YouHaveCancer). Capitalization is not required, though, as seen with assplusplus. The other, much more common, method is to use underscores in place of spaces. Examples include Global_constants, ClanBOB_Radio, and Role_Playing.

Categories, related pages and external links.

Each page (normally) has at least one related page or is a member of at least one category. In order to promote connectivity in this wiki, it would be nice if we could all list those related pages and/or categories at the bottom of each page. The style for this used so far is a horizontal line followed by any categories, and then any related pages.

Here is an example:

[ Entry body blah blah blah Kai sucks ]

Categories: Members, BOBname

Related: BOBisms

External link: Goatse

To create a horizontal rule with a gap underneath it, put --- followed by a space on an empty line.

Quotes

We love quoting each other all the time, right? We think the best way to do this is to use the grey box style, which is created by surrounding the quote with |s.

An example:

"I suck" -KaiNotachi

However it is important to note that this kind of box requires an empty line after it, so that the next wiki code will work properly.

Comments

If you don't have exact facts about a subject, or need to comment in some way shape or form, post the following at the bottom of the page, above the Categories and related pages section:

!!!!Comments

comments go here!

-name

All comments should go in a box, signed by yourself. When the discussion in the comments is finished, tidy up the discussion and add the information to the wiki page. In this way we can keep the comments seperate from the information.

Templates

Use these templates if you're going to create one of these specific types of entries.

Members

As a matter of taste, it is frowned upon for one to create/edit his own member entry. It is preferable to simply add one's own name to the Members page so that others can add their own description of you.

Username, short meaningless description.

Some more detailed information if required.

Any quotes the user said, and the context if needed.

Username's BOBname is templateBOB, for some reason. (if applicable)

Birthday: (month and day)

Schedule (see below)

Categories: Members, others if applicable.

Related: (if applicable)

This order should be preserved, so that readers will know where to look to find BOBnames, for instance.

RPs

Please refer to Demon Days for a good outline of how to handle an RP. It was the first detailed RP to be posted in this wiki, so it serves as a good template. Please, when naming subpages of your RP, use the name of your RP as a prefix to them. It makes them easier to find in the All Pages section and it makes sure that no one will want the name you use.
